The battle of Charlottesville

August 15, 2017October 21, 2024Racial and social justice

Reflecting on who I am, with this past weekend as my mirror. What is my work in this time?

I am hated and distrusted. I am a coastal elite Harvard educated Jewish liberal feminist whose stock in trade is money for social causes.

I am dedicated to kindness. My aspiration is: heart shining, unafraid.

Taken together, I think my work right now is to shine out as much love and warmth as I can, showing there is kindness at the core of this hated identity.

I don’t mean by keeping quiet. Love is weak without truth, and kindness is weak without action.

There is other work to be done by other people with other strengths. I look up to you, my friends with the sharp words and fast facts to win arguments in comments and courts alike. I wish that was me.

This is me.
