Before it’s official, before the celebration begins, I have a promise to make.

To my Black, Indigenous, and people of color friends. LGBTQ+ friends. Friends who can get pregnant. Muslim friends. Immigrant friends. Friends with disabilities and illnesses. Friends who love people who are any of these things.

I will never forget that the majority of White America saw four years of cruelty, racism, and death — and voted for more of it. No matter whether they called it “the economy” or “Christianity” or anything else.

I will never forget that the majority of White America voted against your rights, your humanity, your lives.

I promise you.
