Hearts and minds

November 20, 2016October 21, 2024Personal philosophy, Racial and social justice

Grateful to my friends who really do have “the best words” – the facts & figures at your fingertips, the tightly woven arguments, the sharp retorts that expose flaws in reasoning. Thank you for organizing people, thank you for holding others accountable, thank you for teaching & fighting for justice. I’ve always admired people like you, and honestly I feel guilty that I can’t seem to use those tools to fight for what I believe.

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the phrase “change hearts and minds.” We often say them as a unit, but right now I’m hoping I can help connect hearts while others do the work of the mind. But I’m so unsure – in this situation, is it dereliction of duty to say “I’m a lover, not a fighter?”

As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m sending  <3 and gratitude to my fighters out there. And welcoming your thoughts.
