The Minnesota State Seal, 1858: Motto saying "L'Etoile du Nord" or Star of the North, showing a Native American riding into the sunset on a horse while a white settler plows a field.

In honor of Indigenous People’s Day, I will spend an hour re-listening to this amazing Seeing White podcast episode: “Little War on the Prairie.” Did you know that “we” deliberately mis-translated “Indian treaties” to leave out key provisions so we could trick them into signing bad deals, which we then repudiated anyway and turned into wars of extermination and mass executions? My super-duper awesome education somehow left that part out. Can’t move forward from what we don’t know.
